A creative intervention to explore ‘food justice’ through art.
What is Food Justice? The ‘Who’s in our food’ project brought a creative approach to this question. The Food Justice Network interrogates the systems and inequalities that determine the food that sustains us as individuals and communities. The team commissioned artist Amy Rose and her team to develop an interactive artwork and they chose to use the fishing industry to explore the topic. Amy, Synnove and Pete created a unique table which invited those that sat down to listen to voices of people from the fishing industry. Each recording was triggered by the ceramic plates and bowls as people moved them to different place markings on the wooden table.
The project was led by Dr Robert Skinner, Dr Lydia Medland and Dr Lauren Blake on behalf of the Bristol Researchers’ Food Justice Network, and was funded by the Brigstow Institute.
